On our way home...
We are sitting in the Josie (Jo’burg) airport, about to board our flight to DC. I haven't been back to the USA for a year now, so I am pretty excited.
Our last couple weeks in SA have gone really well. A couple weekends ago we went to Hluhluwe Park. We were there a year ago, and this was the first time we saw big game in Africa. We decided to return one more time to the park- the oldest park in Africa we just learned- before our journey back home.
My last week in Bizana was exciting as well. Parliament was having its People’s Assembly in Bizana, so all the powerful politicians were in Bizana for a week.
After a busy last week we went whale watching. It was really cool to see the humpbacks breaching up close. Below we put together a video of this awesome experience.
Last Wednesday we started our drive to Jo’burg. We spent one night in the Drakensburg, and we were fortunate to see the Drakensburg Boy’s Choir. We weren’t sure what to expect, but they were really good. We even bought a CD. Thursday we then continued to Jo’burg, arriving around noon. We had to drop off our little dog at then kennel which was sad because she was really frightened. We will pick her up on Monday (she arrives a day after we arrive in DC).
Yesterday we went on a tour of Jo’burg and Soweto. I know that Jo’burg and Soweto are dangerous, but it didn’t seem as bad as I had thought. In Soweto we saw the informal settlement where Totsi was filmed and the apartheid museum.
Today we didn’t do much except finish packing. We have so much stuff!! Fortunately, South African airways didn’t charge us anything for our bags being overweight (on the way here we paid $300!)
